Candidates seeking admission into Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) programmes in colleges of education will no longer be required to sit for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, announced the policy change on Monday during the 2026 JAMB policy meeting in Abuja.
Under the new arrangement, prospective candidates will now be admitted based on a minimum of four O-level credits in relevant subjects, without the requirement of sitting for the UTME.
Alausa said the reform is aimed at easing the administrative workload on the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and streamlining the admission process for teacher education programmes.
He added that the policy is part of broader efforts to improve access to teacher training and strengthen the education sector.
