The naira appreciated against the United States dollar at the official foreign exchange market on Thursday, recovering from the decline recorded a day earlier.
Data from the Central Bank of Nigeria showed that the naira strengthened to ₦1,347.63 per dollar on Thursday, compared with ₦1,350.41 traded on Wednesday.
This represents a gain of ₦2.78 for the naira on a day-to-day basis.
However, the naira remained stable at ₦1,405 per dollar at the parallel, or black market, on Thursday, unchanged from the previous day.
The latest appreciation came as Nigeria’s foreign exchange reserves continued to rise, reaching $52.66 billion as of August 19, 2026.
The naira’s latest gain reverses the decline recorded at the official foreign exchange market on Wednesday.
