The Lagos State Government has unveiled three new train sets, each consisting of four coaches, for the Lagos Blue Rail Line Corridor.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu officially commissioned the trains at Iganmu Train Station, describing the addition as a major milestone in enhancing the state’s mass transit infrastructure.
Leading the handover to the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), Sanwo-Olu credited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s unwavering support for the timely delivery of the trains.
He emphasized that the procurement aligns with both the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda and Lagos’ THEMES Plus development plan.
“These new trains will double passenger capacity, reduce wait times, and provide commuters with a more reliable and efficient travel experience,” the governor said.
Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed the state’s commitment to cutting travel times and delivering infrastructure that improves residents’ quality of life.

He noted that train arrivals will now occur every 10 to 15 minutes, significantly easing congestion and boosting commuter confidence.
Updating on phase two of the Blue Rail Line project—from Mile 2 to Okokomaiko—the governor assured Lagosians that construction remains on schedule for completion by 2026.
He also revealed that additional rolling stock is expected for the Red Line corridor before year-end, part of broader efforts to reduce transportation costs and travel times for residents.

The new train sets form part of Lagos’ wider strategy to modernize its transport network and position the state as a leader in sustainable urban mobility across Africa.
Sanwo-Olu was joined at the event by LAMATA Managing Director Abimbola Akinajo and members of the State Executive Council.
