Governor Chukwuma Soludo issued a challenge to opposition parties in Anambra State on Monday, asserting that he sees no formidable challenger as he seeks re-election in the upcoming governorship election on November 8, 2025.
Soludo, a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), expressed confidence that there is widespread consensus among the people of Anambra (Ndi Anambra) that his party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has delivered on its promises and deserves another mandate in the next election.
Speaking during a media chat to mark his third anniversary in office, Soludo emphasized the loyalty of the South-East electorate, stating that while Anambra people may vote for different parties during national elections, they remain steadfast in their support for APGA when it comes to governorship and local government chairmanship elections.
“If there is an election—and there will be an election—if I am the candidate, I will be on the ballot. But I ask, who else is running? Which party is fielding a candidate? So far, unless someone descends from somewhere, I haven’t heard of any,” he remarked.
The former CBN governor acknowledged that he has received calls urging him to run for a second term, but he stressed that the final decision would rest with his party.
“The party must agree and give me the platform,” Soludo explained. “For me, I applied for this job with a clear intention: to serve as a way of thanking God for His blessings and to leave this place better than I found it. If my party nominates me and if the people of Anambra, my employers, graciously renew my tenure, it would be a great honor and privilege to serve.”
Anambra is one of the eight states holding off-cycle governorship elections due to litigations and court rulings. Other states in this category include Bayelsa, Edo, Ekiti, Imo, Kogi, Osun, and Ondo.
