Nigeria’s track star, Tobi Amusan, claimed gold in the women’s 100m hurdles at the New Taipei Athletics Open in Taiwan on Sunday, continuing her impressive run of form this season.
Amusan stormed to victory in 12.72 seconds, finishing comfortably ahead of Taiwan’s Bo Ya Zhang, who took silver in 13.17 seconds, and Yi Po-an, who secured bronze in 13.37 seconds.
The winning time also saw the Nigerian set a new meeting record, eclipsing the previous mark of 12.80 seconds set by American Olympic silver medallist and former world champion Nia Ali.
The 29-year-old had earlier signalled her intent in the heats, where she dominated her race before carrying that momentum into the final.
Amusan took control of the race after the fourth hurdle and never looked back, crossing the finish line well clear of the field in a commanding performance.
The victory marks another milestone in an encouraging season for the world record holder. It is the second consecutive meet in which she has broken a competition record, having earlier rewritten the record books at the Rabat Diamond League.
Amusan has now won three of her five races this season and remains remarkably consistent, having finished on the podium in every event she has contested so far.
