Nasir El-Rufai arrives in court for trial over alleged financial crimes

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai
Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai on Wednesday arrived at the Federal High Court in Kaduna for the continuation of his trial over alleged financial misconduct filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

El-Rufai arrived at the court premises around 9:30 a.m. under security escort ahead of proceedings in the case.

He is standing trial on charges bordering on alleged abuse of office, financial impropriety and fraud during his tenure as governor. The ICPC maintains that it has evidence supporting the allegations, while El-Rufai has consistently denied any wrongdoing.

The case was previously adjourned to 24 June 2026 after two co-defendants failed to appear in court.

On 14 April 2026, the presiding judge, Justice Rilwan Aikawa, granted El-Rufai bail in the sum of ₦200 million, with conditions requiring two sureties—one a serving or retired civil servant of at least Grade Level 15, and the other a recognised traditional ruler.

His legal team later sought a variation of the bail conditions, but the application was dismissed by the court.

The two co-defendants are expected to appear at Wednesday’s proceedings as the court continues hearing the substantive matter.

As has been the practice in the case, journalists were barred from the courtroom during proceedings.
