NAF airstrikes kill several terrorists in Sambisa forest

Several terrorists have been killed following precision air strikes carried out by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) in the Yuwe axis of the Sambisa Forest in Nigeria’s North-East.

The Director of Public Relations and Information at NAF Headquarters, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, said the operation was conducted under sustained pressure on terrorist elements in the region.

In a statement on Tuesday, Ejodame said the strikes “eliminated several fighters concealed within the Yuwe axis of the Sambisa Forest.”

He explained that the operation was based on credible intelligence, supported by Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions, which confirmed the presence of terrorists in fortified structures and underground bunkers.

“NAF air assets engaged the targets with precision munitions, destroying the structures, neutralising multiple terrorists, and eliminating key logistics facilities, as confirmed by subsequent battle damage assessment,” the statement read.

According to the Air Force, the sustained tempo of operations has continued to disrupt terrorist networks, leaving them increasingly exposed and forcing them into “desperate and reactive actions.”

The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, commended the operation, reaffirming the Force’s commitment to sustained offensives against terrorist groups.

“The Nigerian Air Force will sustain relentless, intelligence-driven air operations until terrorist elements are completely neutralised,” he said.

He also reiterated the Force’s commitment to protecting personnel, safeguarding national security, and ensuring civilian safety, while maintaining strict adherence to rules of engagement and minimising collateral damage.

The latest operation comes months after the Air Force reportedly killed more than 40 terrorists in coordinated strikes in the Azir and Musarram areas of Borno State.

Air Commodore Ejodame said post-strike assessments indicated a significant reduction in terrorist activity and a return of relative calm in affected communities.

He added that earlier operations on January 15 targeted terrorists assembling on canoes in the Tumbuns area after intelligence revealed plans for attacks along the Baga and Fish Dam axis.

NAF said the latest strikes were conducted under Operation Hadin Kai.
