MultiChoice has discontinued its popular Africa Magic Family channel after 12 years, replacing it with a new entertainment channel, Africa Magic+, as part of changes to its DStv channel line-up.
The development was announced on Thursday through Africa Magic’s official Instagram page, which described the closure as the end of one chapter and the beginning of another.
In its announcement, the channel bade farewell to viewers with the message, “Goodbye, Africa Magic Family,” while introducing its replacement as a new entertainment offering.
“One chapter closes, but the story is far from over.
“Africa Magic Family is officially closed, there’s so much more coming your way,” the post read.
The channel also urged viewers to anticipate its replacement, promising a wider variety of entertainment.
“More stories, more drama, more variety. Expect more on Africa Magic+ from November 5, 6AM WAT,” it added.
The closure marks the end of Africa Magic Family’s 12-year presence on DStv, where it became known for showcasing family-friendly Nollywood films, Nigerian drama series and other African entertainment programmes.
Over the years, the channel built a loyal audience among viewers seeking locally produced movies and television dramas, particularly stories centred on Nigerian families and culture.
Its replacement, Africa Magic+, is expected to provide a broader mix of entertainment content, although further details about its programming line-up were not provided in the announcement.
The development coincides with a wider restructuring of DStv’s channel line-up and subscription offerings, which took effect on November 5, 2026.
The latest change forms part of MultiChoice’s efforts to refresh its programming, introduce new content offerings and expand the entertainment options available to subscribers.
