Police arrest three over murder of ex-OGTV broadcaster, security guard

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three suspects, including a former security guard, over the murder of a former Ogun State Television broadcaster, Olakitan Oyesiku, and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo.

The State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, disclosed this on Thursday during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta.

He said the arrests followed intensive intelligence gathering, technical tracking, and forensic analysis conducted by detectives investigating the double homicide.

The Telegraph had earlier reported that Oyesiku and Adetayo were found dead at the broadcaster’s residence in the Owode-Egba area of the state on June 21, while her Lexus RX 330 vehicle was reported missing.

Ojajuni said a distress report was received at the Owode-Egba Police Station at about 4 p.m. on the day of the incident, prompting immediate police intervention.

“Preliminary information indicated that the front door of the residence had been partially damaged, while the security house within the compound was found locked,” he said.

He added that detectives discovered Adetayo’s lifeless body inside the security house, while Oyesiku was found in a pool of blood in the living room.

“The crime scene was scientifically processed. A Lexus RX 330 vehicle belonging to the deceased was missing, raising suspicion of robbery and murder,” the commissioner said.

According to him, the vehicle was recovered the following day through intelligence-led operations and technical tracking.

Ojajuni revealed that a handwritten note found at the scene provided crucial leads in the investigation and was subjected to forensic analysis.

He said investigators later arrested the principal suspect, Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, 22, on June 24 at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, where he was working as a labourer.

Subsequent operations led to the arrest of two other suspects, Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, a security guard, and Sobu Obafunsho, 36, a bricklayer.

He said Philip confessed to the crime and admitted to recruiting the other two suspects.

“Further follow-up operations led to the arrest of all identified suspects linked to the criminal conspiracy,” Ojajuni said.

During interrogation, Philip allegedly admitted involvement in the killings and said he recruited the others to assist in the attack, which he claimed was motivated by grievances against the deceased during his time as her security guard.

He reportedly told investigators that the attack was intended to “teach her a lesson.”

The police commissioner said the suspects carried out the attack on June 20, first overpowering Adetayo before gaining access to the residence, where they also killed Oyesiku.

After the killings, the suspects allegedly fled with the victim’s vehicle, which was later recovered in the Onikolobo area of the state.

Ojajuni said detectives also recovered several exhibits linked to the crime, including a broken hammer, a cutlass, a plank, and a black pen.

He added that while the suspects had made confessional statements and evidence had been gathered, investigations were still ongoing.

“The Ogun State Police Command wishes to emphasise that all suspects remain entitled to due process under the law,” he said.

Ojajuni assured residents that the command remained committed to ensuring justice and bringing all persons connected to the killings to account.
