Troops arrest 65-year-old woman for supplying drugs to terrorists

Hauwa Abulazeez, a 65-year-old woman, was nabbed for allegedly supplying drugs to Boko Haram terrorists in the North-East.
Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have arrested a 65-year-old woman, Hauwa Abulazeez, for her alleged role in supplying drugs to Boko Haram terrorists operating in Nigeria’s North-East.

The arrest was disclosed in a statement on Sunday by the spokesman of the Joint Task Force, North-East, Operation Hadin Kai, Lieutenant-Colonel Sanni Uba. He said the suspect was apprehended in Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.

According to Uba, Abulazeez is suspected to be a major supplier of cannabis sativa to Boko Haram elements active in Askira Uba, Rumirgo, Gwahi, Wamdiyo, Uvu, and Gaya communities, and a key link in the distribution of the drug across several areas within the theatre of operations.

“Troops of the Joint Task Force (North-East), Operation Hadin Kai, under Operation Desert Sanity V, have recorded another significant success in degrading terrorist logistics and criminal support networks in the North-East,” the statement said.

“Acting on credible intelligence on January 23, 2026, troops arrested a suspected drug dealer, Hauwa Abulazeez, aged 65, in Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.”

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect allegedly sourced the illicit substance from Sarti Baruwa Local Government Area of Taraba State and transported it through established supply routes for onward distribution to terrorist elements.

During the operation, troops recovered 14 compressed blocks of cannabis sativa, with an estimated total weight of about 30 kilograms, described as a significant seizure intended to disrupt illicit activities.

Uba said the suspect is currently in custody undergoing preliminary investigation, while follow-up operations are ongoing to identify and dismantle the wider drug trafficking and terrorist logistics network.
