Electricity supply has been fully restored to Taraba State, including Jalingo and surrounding communities, following the successful completion of upgrade works on the Yola–Mayo Belwa–Jalingo transmission line.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) said full power restoration was achieved at 7:00 p.m. on January 13, 2026, after the completion of all pre-commissioning tests and the mandatory soak period in line with standard operational procedures.

The planned outage, which commenced at 2:16 p.m. on January 9, enabled contractors to carry out critical upgrade works on the transmission corridor.

According to TCN, the scope of work included line stringing from the terminal tower to a newly constructed line bay, a key step required to energise newly installed 150MVA power transformers at the Jalingo and Mayo Belwa transmission substations.

The company also disclosed that the Gombe–Yola transmission line was temporarily opened on January 11 to facilitate line bay extension and transfer works at the Yola Transmission Substation.

TCN noted that the upgrades would significantly benefit the Yola Electricity Distribution Company, improve power reliability, expand transmission capacity, and support rising electricity demand in Taraba State and neighbouring areas.

The company thanked electricity consumers for their patience during the outage and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the national transmission grid to ensure a more reliable and efficient power supply nationwide.
