The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has attributed the power outage affecting eight local government areas in Kano State to a transmission capacity deficit caused by a fault on a power transformer at the Kwanar-Dangora transmission substation.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the company said the outage followed a fault on the 40MVA 132/33kV power transformer at the 132kV Kwanar-Dangora Transmission Substation.
KEDCO said the affected areas are Kura, Garun Malam, Kiru, Karaye, Rogo, Bebeji, Tudun Wada and Doguwa Local Government Areas.
“This is to inform our esteemed customers in Kura, Garun Malam, Kiru, Karaye, Rogo, Bebeji, Tudun Wada, and Doguwa Local Government Areas that the current power outage is due to a transmission capacity deficit following a fault on the 40MVA 132/33kV power transformer at the 132kV Kwanar-Dangora Transmission Substation,” the statement said.
According to the company, the transformer’s primary and secondary circuit breakers tripped following multiple protection indications, including circuit supervision, earthing transformer trip, oil temperature alarm, lockout and side-trip circuit supervision.
The affected transformer was subsequently isolated, while the matter was referred to the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) maintenance team for repairs, KEDCO said.
The company added that efforts were underway to procure and replace the affected earthing transformer to facilitate the restoration of normal power supply.
“KEDCO is working closely with Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and other relevant stakeholders to minimise the impact of the transmission capacity deficit and explore available options for alternative supply to affected customers pending completion of the repair works,” it said.
KEDCO apologised to customers for the disruption and assured them that normal power supply would be restored as soon as the repair works are completed.
