The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Jigawa State Command, said it seized 1,944.389kg of illicit drugs worth approximately ₦2.8 billion in 2025, securing convictions for 136 drug peddlers amid a global push against drug abuse.
The Telegraph reported that the achievement comes as nations intensify efforts to tackle the drug menace, with the NDLEA leading the charge in Jigawa through aggressive enforcement operations.
Briefing journalists on the Command’s 2025 activities at its headquarters in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital, State Commander Hassan Kabaju disclosed that the seized drugs included 441.973kg of cannabis sativa, 1,373.886kg of psychotropic substances, and 128.520kg of other substances of abuse.
Kabaju explained that the Command secured convictions for 136 of the 577 arrested drug offenders, comprising 558 males and 19 females. “The seized drugs are worth approximately ₦2.8 billion, based on current market prices,” he added.
“The command worked tirelessly to limit the supply and abuse of hard drugs and other psychoactive substances,” Kabaju said.
He further revealed that the agency counselled 552 drug users, while 59 male drug-dependent persons were referred for treatment and rehabilitation at the Command’s Drug Demand Reduction Unit facility.
Under its War Against Drug Abuse sensitisation campaign, the NDLEA in Jigawa delivered 39,383 drug prevention lectures and advocacy talks across schools, including tertiary institutions, during the year.
However, Kabaju noted that the Command faced challenges, including a shortage of vehicles, administrative equipment, and operational machinery. Despite these constraints, he affirmed that the NDLEA would continue to reach all 27 local government areas in the state to combat drug trafficking and abuse.
“The NDLEA will continue to intensify its efforts to combat drug abuse and trafficking in Jigawa State,” he said, commending the dedication of personnel under the Command. “We pray that Jigawa State Command will continue to make this Agency proud.”
The Commander also thanked the public for their support and urged continued collaboration to tackle drug abuse in the state.
