At least seven people were trapped after part of a power plant structure collapsed on South Korea’s east coast, the National Fire Agency said on Thursday.
The incident occurred around 2 p.m. (0500 GMT) at Korea East-West Power’s Ulsan Power Headquarters in the southeastern city of Ulsan, when a large section of the facility gave way.
Authorities said two people have been rescued, while at least seven others remain unaccounted for. Emergency crews were continuing search and rescue operations at the site.
South Korean Prime Minister Kim Min-seok ordered all relevant ministries to “mobilize all available personnel and equipment, placing top priority on rescuing those trapped.”
The prime minister’s office added that residents living nearby were being evacuated as a precaution.
According to local reports, the collapse occurred during demolition work at the thermal power plant, which had been out of operation.
