Abia State Governor Alex Otti has approved the payment of ₦25 million to the hospital treating veteran Nollywood actress Ngozi Nwosu, fulfilling his promise to support her medical care.
The governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Tourism and Entertainment, Martins Justice, announced the development in a post on X on Thursday.
Justice said the payment was made before the close of work on Wednesday, following Otti’s commitment to assist the actress with her medical expenses.
“Yesterday before the close of work, His Excellency @alexottiofr, our pragmatic leader, made good his promise, directing a ₦25m payment to the hospital’s account where our Nollywood legendary actress, Mrs Ngozi Nwosu, is receiving treatment.
“We thank you immensely for your support and kindness of heart, sir. History will be kind to you,” he wrote.
The intervention came a day after the Abia State Government announced that Otti had approved the first phase of Nwosu’s medical expenses following her public appeal for financial assistance to undergo three life-saving surgeries.
Nwosu, 62, had disclosed in a video shared on her Instagram page that she had been hospitalised for three weeks and needed ₦30 million to fund the procedures.
“My people, my fans and my family, I know that you’ve not seen me in circulation for some time. I’ve been hospitalised now for three weeks. Please, the thing has gone beyond my control,” she said.
“I need your help. Don’t let me die. I know that you people never forsake me. I’m begging you, my fans and family, don’t let me die because I am going through a lot, as in pain.”
The actress appealed to fans, colleagues and well-wishers to support her treatment through her management, saying she could no longer bear the financial burden of her healthcare.
The governor’s gesture has since received commendation from fans and members of the entertainment industry.
