President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday swore in Joseph Tegbe as Minister of Power and Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs at a ceremony held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The brief event was attended by the ministers’ spouses, senior government officials and aides of the President.
The appointments followed the resignations of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, who stepped down to pursue political ambitions ahead of the 2027 elections.
Tinubu subsequently nominated Tegbe and Enikanolaiye to fill the vacancies, and both were confirmed by the Senate on May 6, 2026.
In a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tegbe was described as a seasoned fiscal, economic and institutional reform strategist with more than 35 years of experience spanning the public and private sectors.
A native of Ibadan, Oyo State, Tegbe holds a First Class degree in Civil Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University, a Master of Business Administration degree from Switzerland and a Master of Public Administration degree from Birmingham.
According to the statement, he previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led major reform initiatives, including the design and implementation of presidential and subnational government transformation programmes.
The presidency noted that Tegbe has played key roles in fiscal policy restructuring and has worked with organisations including the Nigerian Communications Commission, Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading, Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, Shell, Huawei, General Electric, MTN and the Odu’a Group.
Enikanolaiye, who hails from Igbagun in Kogi State, holds a First Class degree in Political Science from Ahmadu Bello University, where he graduated as the best student in his faculty. He also earned a Master’s degree in International Law and Diplomacy with distinction from University of Lagos.
He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in August 1982 and rose through the ranks to become Permanent Secretary of the ministry in 2016. He retired from the civil service in August 2017 after 35 years of service.
A career diplomat, Enikanolaiye served in several Nigerian missions abroad, including postings in Addis Ababa, Belgrade, Ottawa and London. His final foreign posting was as Nigeria’s Head of Mission in New Delhi.
The statement noted that he is a recipient of several honours, including the Presidential Civil Service Merit Award, the Presidential Distinguished Public Service Career Award and recognition as a Distinguished Fellow of the National Defence College.
Before his appointment, Enikanolaiye served as Senior Special Assistant to President Tinubu on Foreign Affairs and International Relations in the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President.
