Chelsea have sacked manager Liam Rosenior following a damaging run of five consecutive Premier League defeats, the club confirmed on Wednesday.
The 41-year-old departs just over three months after arriving from RC Strasbourg, a side linked to Chelsea’s ownership group. His tenure was brought to an abrupt end after Tuesday’s 3–0 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion, a result that proved decisive.
The defeat marked Chelsea’s fifth straight league loss without scoring, their worst such run since 1912 — leaving them seven points adrift of the Champions League places.
“Chelsea Football Club has today parted company with Head Coach Liam Rosenior,” the club said in a statement.
“Liam has always conducted himself with the highest integrity and professionalism following his appointment midway through the season.
“This has not been a decision the Club has taken lightly; however, recent results and performances have fallen below the necessary standards, with still much to play for this season.”
Assistant coach Calum McFarlane will take charge on an interim basis, with his first assignment set to be an FA Cup semi-final clash against Leeds United on Sunday.
Rosenior’s dismissal underscores the mounting pressure at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea scramble to salvage their season.
