President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Shamseldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the Acting Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), following the pre-retirement leave of the incumbent, Dr. (Mrs.) Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein.

A statement issued on Tuesday by presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed that the appointment is effective immediately.

In the statement, Onanuga highlighted that the appointment ensures a smooth transition in managing Nigeria’s treasury and reinforces the administration’s ongoing reforms in treasury policy.

Ogunjimi, with over 30 years of extensive experience in financial management across both the public and private sectors, is described as a seasoned civil servant and the most senior director at the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF).

He has held several key positions, including Director of Funds at the OAGF and Director of Finance and Accounts at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Ogunjimi is a chartered accountant, certified fraud examiner, chartered stockbroker, and chartered security and investment specialist. His academic credentials include a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Accountancy and a Master’s degree in Finance and Accounting.

In the statement, President Tinubu expressed confidence in Ogunjimi’s ability to steer the office of the AGF, noting, “The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation is crucial to our nation’s treasury management operations. Mr. Ogunjimi’s extensive experience and proven competence will ensure the continued effectiveness of this vital institution as we advance our economic reform agenda.”

President Tinubu also commended the outgoing AGF, Dr. Madein, for her dedication and selfless service to the nation. Dr. Madein, who will retire upon reaching the civil service’s mandatory retirement age on March 7, 2025, was praised for her outstanding contributions.
