Portugal midfielder Bernardo Silva has signed a two-year contract with Real Madrid, the Spanish club announced on Wednesday.
Silva joins the La Liga giants on a free transfer after leaving Manchester City at the end of last season when his contract expired.
“Real Madrid and Bernardo Silva have reached an agreement for him to become a Real Madrid player for the next two seasons, until June 30, 2028,” the club said in a statement.
The 31-year-old Portugal international, who has earned 109 caps, is currently on international duty at his third FIFA World Cup.
He is expected to feature for Portugal when they open their Group K campaign against DR Congo in Houston later on Wednesday.
Silva made 459 appearances for Manchester City after joining from Monaco in 2017, scoring 76 goals and becoming a key figure in one of the most successful eras in the club’s history.
During his time in England, he won 20 major trophies, including six Premier League titles and the 2023 UEFA Champions League as part of a historic treble-winning campaign.
He also lifted four consecutive league titles between 2021 and 2024, cementing City’s domestic dominance.
At Monaco, Silva had earlier won the Ligue 1 title alongside current Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé.
Real Madrid, meanwhile, have been rebuilding after a difficult campaign in which they finished eight points behind La Liga champions Barcelona and exited the UEFA Champions League at the quarter-final stage.
After a second consecutive trophyless season, newly re-elected president Florentino Pérez has overseen an active transfer window as the club seeks to regain its dominance.
Madrid have already confirmed the signing of left-back Marc Cucurella from Chelsea for a reported €55 million ($63.8 million), while Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté is expected to join on a free transfer when his contract expires.
The club have also been linked with Inter Milan full-back Denzel Dumfries, while defender Antonio Rüdiger recently extended his contract until 2027.
