Soludo sworn in for second term as Anambra gov

Aambra State Governor, Charles Soludo, takes his oath of office at the Alex Ekwueme Square in Akwa on March 17, 2026.
Anambra State Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo and his deputy, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, were officially sworn in for a second term on Tuesday during a ceremony at the newly renovated Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka.

The oaths of office and allegiance to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria were administered by the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Onochie Anyachebelu, at approximately 11:05 a.m. Both leaders were accompanied by their wives and family members.

The inauguration drew a high-profile audience, including Vice President Kashim Shettima and former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan. Several elder statesmen, such as former Commonwealth Secretary-General Emeka Anyaoku, and traditional rulers from Anambra’s 179 communities, as well as monarchs from other parts of Nigeria, were also in attendance.

Governor Soludo, who was re-elected on November 8, 2025, under the All Progressives Grand Alliance, saw his party mobilise representatives from all 326 political wards for the event. Security was heightened across the state, with officers from the police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Road Safety Corps, and other agencies deployed to key locations.

The governor and his deputy concluded their first term on Sunday with an interdenominational thanksgiving service at the International Convention Centre.
