Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has confirmed receiving an invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), assuring Nigerians that he is ready to honour the summons.

Malami announced the development in a post on his personal Facebook page on Friday, describing himself as a law-abiding citizen committed to transparency and accountability in public office.

“This is to confirm that I have been invited by the EFCC. As a law-abiding and patriotic citizen, I hereby reaffirm my commitment to honour the invitation,” he wrote.

He said he chose to disclose the invitation publicly in line with his long-standing advocacy for openness in governance. “I understand the spirit of accountability and transparency in public service, principles that I both advocate and champion,” he added, promising to keep Nigerians informed as the situation develops.

Malami served as Nigeria’s Attorney-General and Minister of Justice from 2015 to 2023 under former President Muhammadu Buhari, during which he played a central role in several high-profile legal and political matters, including asset recovery efforts, anti-corruption initiatives, and major international arbitration disputes.

His tenure also drew scrutiny in later years over issues such as asset declarations, contract approvals, and the management of recovered funds — allegations he repeatedly denied.

As of the time of filing this report, the EFCC has not disclosed the details or scope of its invitation to the former attorney-general.
