Liverpool snatched a dramatic stoppage-time 1-0 victory at Burnley on Sunday, extending their perfect start to the Premier League season.
Mohamed Salah delivered the decisive moment in the 95th minute, calmly converting from the penalty spot after Jeremie Frimpong’s cross struck Hannibal Mejbri’s arm. The late strike secured Liverpool’s fourth win in as many games and kept them clear at the top of the table.
Jürgen Klopp’s side dominated possession throughout and probed patiently, but Burnley’s disciplined, deep-lying defence frustrated them for long stretches. Goalkeeper Martin Dúbravka had little to do in the first half but made a vital save after the interval as Liverpool increased the tempo.
The contest swung in Liverpool’s favour when Burnley were reduced to ten men in the 84th minute. Lesley Ugochukwu, already on a booking, received his marching orders for a foul on Florian Wirtz. Even so, Vincent Kompany’s side held firm until deep into stoppage time, when Salah broke their resistance with the coolness of a veteran.
The result leaves Liverpool top of the Premier League on 12 points, three clear of Arsenal. Burnley, meanwhile, remain with just one point from four matches, their spirited defensive display ending in another crushing defeat.
