Tinubu sacks Edun, Dangiwa in cabinet reshuffle

President Bola Tinubu
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor reshuffle of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), resulting in changes to the leadership of two ministries.

According to a memo signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, Ministers of Finance, Wale Edun, and Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, are exiting the cabinet, with replacements already named.

A statement issued by Yomi Odunuga, media aide to the SGF, confirmed that both outgoing ministers have been directed to formally hand over to their successors.

Taiwo Oyedele, formerly Minister of State for Finance, has been appointed to succeed Edun as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.

Muttaqha Rabe Darma has also been named Minister-Designate to take over from Dangiwa as Minister of Housing and Urban Development.

The statement did not provide reasons for the reshuffle, nor did it indicate the future assignments of the outgoing ministers.

It directed that “all handing over and taking over processes should be completed on or before close of business on Thursday, April 23, 2026.”

Explaining the changes, Akume said the decision was aimed at strengthening coordination within government and improving economic delivery under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

“These changes are aimed at strengthening cohesion and synergy in governance, as well as achieving more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians,” he said.

He added that the President exercised his constitutional powers under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) in approving the reshuffle.

The SGF also thanked the outgoing ministers for their service to the nation and wished them well in their future endeavours, noting that the process of government reinvigoration would remain continuous.
