The Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, held a closed-door meeting with former President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja on Thursday.
Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, shared photos from the meeting on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle late Thursday night, describing the encounter as “fruitful.”
“Today in Abuja, I met with my very dear elder brother, statesman, and leader, former President Goodluck Jonathan (@GEJonathan),” Obi wrote.
“We had a fruitful closed-door meeting and discussed the state of our dear nation.”
While Obi did not disclose specific details of their conversation, the meeting comes amid growing political speculation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In recent weeks, there have been calls for Jonathan to consider another run for the presidency, although the former president has yet to make any public statement on the matter.
Meanwhile, sources within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have hinted at ongoing efforts to woo both Jonathan and Obi to contest the party’s 2027 presidential ticket, as the opposition begins to reposition itself for the next electoral cycle.
The meeting has sparked interest among political observers, given both men’s significant influence and the current realignments within Nigeria’s political landscape.
