The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has commissioned a new domestic cargo terminal at the General Aviation Terminal (GAT) in Lagos, marking a major step in modernising Nigeria’s aviation logistics infrastructure.
The facility was inaugurated on Friday by FAAN Managing Director/CEO, Olubunmi Kuku, as part of the agency’s broader efforts to boost efficiency and reliability in cargo handling nationwide. The event was attended by senior FAAN officials, with the Director of Commercial and Business Development, Ms. Joy Agunbiade, representing the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mrs. Obiageli Orah.
According to a statement issued by FAAN, the new terminal is strategically designed to improve scalability, safety, and operational flow in domestic cargo processing, particularly in response to rising e-commerce demand and agricultural exports.
“The terminal will ease long-standing bottlenecks in cargo movement, supporting producers, exporters, and logistics providers,” FAAN noted.
The initiative aligns with a national aviation logistics roadmap spearheaded by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and implemented by the Directorate of Cargo Development and Services under Lekan Thomas.
FAAN plans to replicate the facility in other key cities including Abuja, Kano, Jos, Niger, and Port Harcourt to strengthen Nigeria’s air cargo network.
The agency added that the Lagos terminal reinforces the city’s role as a central hub in the country’s growing air freight ecosystem.
