FG declares public holidays for Christmas, New Year celebrations

The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, December 25th and Thursday, December 26th, 2024, as public holidays to celebrate Christmas and Boxing Day, respectively, as well as Wednesday, January 1st, 2025, to mark the New Year.

Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, made the announcement on behalf of the Federal Government in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani. He extended warm holiday greetings to all Nigerians, urging them to embrace the festive season as a time for reflection on the core values of love, peace, and unity.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo highlighted the significance of the season as an opportunity to promote harmony and strengthen relationships within families and communities across the nation.

“Christmas is a time for both spiritual reflection and national renewal,” said Dr. Tunji-Ojo. “As we celebrate the birth of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, let us embody kindness and goodwill, reaching out to one another with understanding, regardless of our differences.”

The Minister also encouraged Nigerians to remain steadfast in their commitment to the peace, unity, and progress of the nation, noting that these principles are vital for national development.

In his message, Dr. Tunji-Ojo reaffirmed the Federal Government’s dedication to ensuring peace, security, and prosperity for all citizens.

He concluded with a heartfelt wish for a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year, expressing confidence that the Renewed Hope Agenda under President Tinubu’s leadership will usher in a year of economic growth and national prosperity, positioning Nigeria as a leading global economy.
