Former presidential candidate of the Accord Party, Chris Imumolen, has thrown his weight behind the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, ahead of Saturday’s Osun governorship election.
Imumolen announced his decision on Thursday at the APC Mega Rally held in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, where he declared his support for Oyebamiji and urged Accord Party members across the state to vote for the APC candidate.
“As the national chairman of the Accord Party today — and my working committee members are all here — we have stepped down our support for Ademola Adeleke, and today we declare our support for AMBO [Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji],” Imumolen said at the rally.
“Come Saturday, all Accord members in Osun State should go to their polling units and vote for AMBO.”
The endorsement puts Imumolen at odds with the Accord Party leadership under Maxwell Mgbudem, whose executive has endorsed the re-election bid of Governor Ademola Adeleke. The Mgbudem-led faction is recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Imumolen’s declaration in Osogbo came days after he announced his withdrawal from the 2027 presidential race and endorsed President Bola Tinubu.
Explaining his decision last week, Imumolen said it was motivated by the need to promote national stability, unity and development.
He said his decision followed an assessment of Tinubu’s leadership and the reforms implemented by his administration, which he believes could contribute to the country’s long-term development.
