The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos State has announced the commencement of the public display of candidates’ personal particulars for the 2027 presidential, senatorial and House of Representatives elections from Saturday, August 1, 2026.
The commission said the exercise is in accordance with Section 29 of the Electoral Act 2022 and is designed to enable members of the public to scrutinise the credentials and documents submitted by candidates seeking elective positions.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by the Head of Voter Education and Publicity, Lagos INEC, Mrs Esther Emeh.
INEC said the display would be conducted at its Lagos State office in Sabo-Yaba and the respective Local Government Area offices within the affected constituencies.
The electoral body explained that the documents, contained in Form EC9, include candidates’ personal information, credentials and affidavits submitted by political parties.
“Form EC9 contains the credentials, personal particulars and affidavits submitted by candidates sponsored by political parties,” INEC stated.
The commission urged political parties, candidates, stakeholders and members of the public to participate in the exercise by inspecting the displayed documents during the stipulated period.
It added that anyone with objections to information provided by a candidate, including allegations of false declarations or forged documents, could seek legal redress in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act.
INEC reaffirmed its commitment to promoting transparency, accountability and credible elections ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The public display of candidates’ particulars is a statutory requirement under Nigeria’s electoral framework, providing citizens and stakeholders an opportunity to examine information submitted by political parties before the polls.
As part of preparations for the 2027 elections, the commission has continued to undertake key electoral activities, including candidate documentation, party nomination processes and voter-related programmes.
