APC wins all 18 chairmanship, 192 councillorship seats in Edo LG poll

The Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) has declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of all 18 chairmanship seats and 192 councillorship positions contested in Saturday’s local government elections across the state.

Announcing the results at the commission’s headquarters in Benin City on Sunday, EDSIEC Chairman Jonathan Aifuobhokhan said the election was conducted in line with the Edo State Local Government Electoral Law and other applicable electoral guidelines.

He said the electoral process—from accreditation and voting to sorting, counting, collation and declaration of results—was successfully concluded in all 18 local government areas.

Aifuobhokhan commended the commission’s returning officers for what he described as their professionalism and impartiality in discharging their statutory duties throughout the exercise.

According to him, following the completion of collation at the ward and local government levels, the duly appointed returning officers declared the APC winners of all chairmanship and councillorship contests, giving the party a clean sweep of the elections.

While acknowledging minor operational challenges in a few locations, the EDSIEC chairman said the issues were not substantial enough to affect either the conduct or the outcome of the poll. He described the election as generally peaceful across the state.

He thanked eligible voters for participating in the exercise and expressed appreciation to Governor Monday Okpebholo for allowing the commission to carry out its responsibilities without interference. He added that certificates of return would be presented to the successful candidates on Monday.

Aifuobhokhan advised political parties and candidates dissatisfied with the outcome of the election to pursue redress through the appropriate legal channels.

He also reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to improving future elections through periodic reviews and sustained engagement with relevant stakeholders.
