Ex-Delta Gov Okowa visits EFCC Lagos office amid ongoing probe

Ex-Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa.
Former Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, on Monday visited the Lagos office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Ikoyi in connection with an ongoing investigation into alleged illegal diversion of about ₦1.3 trillion.

Okowa is being investigated over the alleged mismanagement of 13 per cent derivation funds accruing to Delta State from the Federation Account between 2015 and 2023, according to a source within the commission who spoke on condition of anonymity.

EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale was unavailable for comment at the time of filing this report.

The former governor had previously been questioned by EFCC operatives on November 4, 2024, at the commission’s Port Harcourt Zonal Directorate over related allegations.

Sources further indicated that Okowa’s visit to the Lagos office was linked to efforts to secure the release of his international passport to facilitate travel abroad for medical treatment.

It was not immediately clear whether his request was granted by the anti-graft agency.

The EFCC has yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
