APC disqualifies four Fubara loyalists, clears 21 for Rivers Reps primaries

Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has disqualified four loyalists of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara from contesting in its House of Representatives primaries scheduled for Saturday, May 16, 2026.

The decision was contained in the party’s final list of aspirants released on Friday and made available to journalists.

Those disqualified include two serving members of the House of Representatives, Awaji-Inombek Abiante and Boma Goodhead. Abiante, a prominent Rivers politician, had reportedly obtained a governorship form in support of Governor Fubara’s political interests.

The other disqualified aspirants are Air Commodore John Opera (retd.) and Hon. Anderson Igbiki.

Meanwhile, 21 aspirants, including Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly Martin Amaewhule, were cleared to participate in the primaries. Amaewhule is contesting for the Obio/Akpor Federal Constituency seat and is expected to face off against the incumbent Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon. Kingsley Chinda.

The Rivers State APC Publicity Secretary, Chibike Ikenga, confirmed the development in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Friday. The statement, titled “Final List of Aspirants for the House of Representatives Primary Election for Saturday, 16th May, 2026,” said the list was released by the party’s national leadership.

“Aspirants are kindly advised to note and comply accordingly. This information must be taken seriously in view of the election as scheduled,” the statement read.

It added that the final list of cleared and disqualified aspirants had been attached for reference.
