Former Ondo State Governor Olusegun Mimiko has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a major political shift ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Mimiko, who served as governor of Ondo State from 2009 to 2017, formally announced his move on Thursday at the APC Ward 7 Secretariat in Ondo West Local Government Area.
The former governor had resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in April before confirming his decision to join the ruling APC.
Speaking during the event, Mimiko said his decision was motivated by a desire to contribute to Nigeria’s socio-economic and political development, as well as support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
While acknowledging the economic difficulties currently facing Nigerians, he expressed confidence that the policies and reforms of the Tinubu administration would lay a strong foundation for long-term national growth and stability.
Welcoming him into the party, Ondo State APC Chairman Kolawole Babatunde described Mimiko’s defection as a significant boost to the party’s strength and influence in the state.
Babatunde praised the former governor’s leadership record and contributions to the development of Ondo State and the country, adding that both the party and the state government were pleased to receive him into the APC fold.
