Chukwuma Soludo has appointed Matthew Hassan Kukah as Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University.
The appointment was announced on Wednesday in a statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Christine Aburime.
According to the statement, the move is aimed at strengthening the university’s leadership, expanding its global partnerships, and promoting integrity and strong values among students.
Kukah, the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, brings a distinguished academic and public service record to the role. He studied at St Augustine Major Seminary and holds a diploma in religious studies from the University of Ibadan. He also attended the Pontifical Urban University, the University of Bradford, and SOAS University of London, where he earned a doctorate in 1990.
He has further undertaken studies at the University of Oxford and Harvard University.
Beyond academia, Kukah is a published author and founder of The Kukah Centre, an organisation focused on interfaith dialogue and public policy reform.
Widely respected as a cleric and scholar, he is known for bridging academic scholarship with a strong commitment to social justice in Nigeria.
