There was panic in Ilara-Mokin, a community in Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State, following the sudden death of a middle-aged woman, Oluwasola Adebayo, who reportedly slumped while accompanying her child to a Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) centre.
Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred shortly after she dropped off her child for the ongoing examination.
According to accounts, the woman complained of weakness upon reaching a nearby junction before collapsing unexpectedly. Attempts to revive her proved unsuccessful, and she was confirmed dead at the scene.
Her child was said to be inside the examination hall at the time, unaware of the development.
The incident threw residents and passersby into mourning, although the exact cause of death has yet to be determined.
The spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the incident in a statement issued to journalists on Tuesday.
Jimoh said the command was aware of the sudden death and had taken necessary steps, including notifying the deceased’s family.
He added that, after due identification, the remains were released to Apapa Olamilekan, who identified himself as her son and an officer of the Nigeria Legion in Akure.
