The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is set to hold its first National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting at its national headquarters, Wadata Plaza, following the unsealing of the secretariat by police last week.
The party’s headquarters was sealed in November last year after a violent confrontation between the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee and the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led caretaker committee, both of which laid claim to the party’s leadership.
The leadership crisis deepened after an Appeal Court judgment in March invalidated the Ibadan convention that produced the Turaki-led executive. The ruling was subsequently relied upon by the Mohammed-led faction, which is reportedly backed by Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, to organise a parallel convention in Abuja.
The NEC meeting scheduled for today is expected to draw key stakeholders aligned with the Mohammed-led faction, including Wike, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, and former Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, among others.
