The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won all 17 chairmanship seats contested in Saturday’s local government elections in Yobe State, according to the Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission (YOSIEC).
The commission also declared APC candidates winners in 176 of the 178 councillorship seats contested across the state.
The Executive Chairman of YOSIEC, Ibrahim Yabani, announced the results on Sunday following the completion of voting, counting, collation and verification.
Yabani said 10 political parties participated in the elections, fielding candidates for the chairmanship positions across the state’s 17 local government areas and for councillorship seats in the 178 wards.
“A total of 10 political parties participated in this democratic exercise, fielding candidates for the chairmanship positions across the 17 LGAs as well as the councillorship seats across the 178 wards,” he said.
He added that the Action Democratic Party (ADP) and the All Peoples Party (APP) won one councillorship seat each in Fune and Karasuwa local government areas.
The Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) in the state, Umar Jajere, commended the conduct of the election.
“This is the hallmark of a true democrat. We thank you for creating an enabling environment that allows IPAC and all parties to operate without fear or favour,” Jajere said.
Yabani said certificates of return would be presented to the winners at a later date ahead of their swearing-in.
