Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested popular Lagos socialite Emeka Okonkwo Daniel, also known as E-Money, over alleged abuse of the Naira and violation of foreign exchange regulations.
E-Money was reportedly apprehended on Monday night at his residence in the Omole area of Lagos.
Sources within the EFCC confirmed on Tuesday that the arrest was linked to his alleged act of spraying United States dollars at a public event, which contravenes provisions of the Foreign Exchange Act.
A source within the commission stated, “On Monday night, we arrested E-Money for alleged Naira abuse and defacing of foreign currency. Specifically, he is accused of spraying U.S. dollars, which is a violation of the Foreign Exchange Act. He was picked up at his Omole residence, and preliminary investigations are currently underway. He will be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation.”
Another source, who spoke on condition of anonymity as they were not authorised to comment publicly, confirmed to our correspondent that E-Money is currently being flown to Abuja for further questioning.
“Yes, he has been arrested and is being transported to Abuja for interrogation,” the source said.
When contacted for an official response, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale declined to comment on the matter.
