As Christians around the world celebrate Easter, governors across Nigeria have called on citizens to reflect on the values of unity, peace, and selfless love, virtues embodied by the life and sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
In separate Easter messages, the governors encouraged Nigerians to draw inspiration from Christ’s death and resurrection, using the occasion to promote harmony, compassion, and nation-building.
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in his Easter message posted on X, emphasized the importance of togetherness as a key element of community identity. He urged Lagosians to positively impact those around them—friends, family, colleagues, and neighbors—while contributing to the state’s growth and Nigeria’s progress.
“Today, I wish all Lagosians and Christians around the world a blessed and joyful Easter.
As we commemorate this special occasion, I urge you to embrace unity and togetherness as a core part of your identity. Let us work together to uplift one another and contribute positively to the development of our beloved Lagos State and Nigeria. May we embody the spirit of Jesus in all that we do,” Sanwo-Olu said.
Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, called on Christians to express selfless love and forgiveness, and to serve others with humility and grace.
“This sacred season calls us to embody the spirit of Christ: to love selflessly, forgive freely, and serve humanity with humility and grace,” he said in his Easter message. “Let us continue to pray for our state and our nation, trusting in God’s divine guidance and provision. May the joy and peace of Easter fill your hearts and homes. He is risen indeed! Hallelujah!”
Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, encouraged Christians to reflect on the significance and virtues of the Holy Week, noting that Easter serves as a reminder of hope, perseverance, and faith.
“The triumph of Jesus Christ in the face of adversity, which Easter symbolises, should drive our belief in God and the endless possibilities that come with unshakeable faith in His power,” he said.
“May the peace of the Risen Christ abide with us all as we celebrate the resurrection and the assurance of eternal life.”
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, described Easter as a season marked by sacrifice, hope, and redemption. Quoting Matthew 20:28, he emphasized the call to serve others selflessly.
“This season also exemplifies the concept of selfless service, as captured in the words of Scripture: ‘The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.’
As we mark this season of love, sacrifice, and hope, I urge you to rest assured that we are working diligently to elevate our state by prioritizing you, our people, in all our endeavors,” he said.
Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, in a message signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Digital Communications, Emmanuel Bello, said Easter calls for deeper empathy and shared responsibility.
“The lessons of Easter—especially those of sacrifice and love—must be embraced by all believers,” he noted. “This season invites us to greater understanding and urges us to treat one another with decency and compassion. The world becomes better when we bear each other’s burdens selflessly. Self-discipline and moderation remain the cornerstones of the Christian faith, as shown by Christ who endured the pain of the cross.”
As Nigeria continues to navigate various challenges, the leaders urged citizens to let the message of Easter guide their actions, inspire unity, and renew hope for a better future.
