FULL LIST: Lagos seals 13 markets over illegal waste disposal

In a decisive move to promote environmental cleanliness and protect public health, the Lagos State Government has sealed 13 markets across the state for persistent violations related to illegal waste disposal.

This action was announced by the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, in a statement shared via his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Friday.

According to Wahab, the enforcement aligns with the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law of 2017, which mandates responsible waste management and seeks to uphold public order.

Among the affected locations, the Ketu and Mile 12 markets were sealed on Thursday night following repeated infractions, including indiscriminate waste dumping along roads, medians, and highways.

Wahab emphasized that these enforcement actions are essential to restoring environmental sanity and ensuring the safety of public spaces in key commercial hubs. He warned that continued disregard for waste management regulations would no longer be tolerated.

“The enforcement actions are necessary to safeguard public health and restore order to our public spaces,” Wahab stated.

  2. Oja Oba Market, Ketu
