The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, has approved the payment of March salaries for the state’s civil servants, public servants, pensioners, and all suspended political appointees.
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Ibibia Worika, made this announcement in a statement issued to the press in Port Harcourt on Friday.
The statement revealed that the Accountant-General has been instructed to ensure the prompt and timely disbursement of the salaries.
This approval comes in response to mounting concerns from labor unions, particularly the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), which had recently threatened industrial action over delays in salary payments.
The NLC had warned that the continued non-payment of wages could lead to a statewide shutdown of government activities.
The announcement is expected to ease tensions between the Rivers State Government and labor unions, helping to prevent further unrest.
