Police arrest officers demanding money to investigate missing girl in Ogun

Some officers with the Ogun State Police Command have been arrested for allegedly demanding money from the family of a missing girl before taking action on the case.

Muyiwa Adejobi, the Public Relations Officer for the Nigeria Police Force, confirmed the arrests in a post on X.com (formerly Twitter) on Saturday. He stated that the officers are currently in detention pending disciplinary action.

In his statement, Adejobi wrote: “Regarding the case of the missing girl in Otta: The policemen who demanded money before addressing the case have been arrested and are now in detention for disciplinary procedures.”

Adejobi also reiterated the Ogun State Police Command’s dedication to locating the missing girl and reassured the public that efforts are ongoing to find her. “The Ogun State Police Command has been actively working on the case, and we are committed to locating the girl as soon as possible. We urge the family to continue cooperating with the police,” he said.

Earlier, Adejobi had cautioned officers against exploiting the name of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for fraudulent purposes, urging the public to report such misconduct.
