NNPCL launches command centre to boost oil, gas production

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has launched the Production Monitoring Command Centre (PMCC), an innovative initiative aimed at transforming hydrocarbon operations and boosting production.

Led by NNPC Upstream Investment Management Services, the PMCC builds on the success of the Command and Control Centre, enhancing monitoring capabilities, operational efficiency, and overall production output.

Olufemi Soneye, NNPC Ltd.’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, stated that the PMCC aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s vision to improve industry efficiency and increase production.

A statement, including a video and text, was posted on the company’s website on Wednesday to explain the new initiative.

“The PMCC serves as a centralized platform for monitoring hydrocarbon molecules from production to export terminals, covering Joint Ventures (JVs) and Production Sharing Contracts (PSCs),” Soneye explained.

By consolidating real-time data from various operators, the PMCC provides a comprehensive view of production activities. This approach ensures the timely identification of anomalies, minimizes unplanned disruptions, and supports seamless operational continuity.

“Through advanced analytics and integrated data, the PMCC equips stakeholders with actionable insights for proactive decision-making,” he added. “This capability optimizes planning, resource allocation, and risk management, helping operators meet production targets and maintain high operational standards.”

A key feature of the PMCC is its ability to support predictive and preventive maintenance. By continuously monitoring equipment performance and coordinating maintenance efforts, the system enhances asset reliability and longevity.

Soneye emphasized that the PMCC also fosters collaboration among stakeholders by providing a secure platform for data sharing and communication, promoting effective problem-solving and continuous improvement across the sector.

He highlighted that the PMCC’s focus on minimizing downtime and optimizing maintenance directly contributes to increased production and revenue.

“Under the leadership of Mele Kyari, NNPC Ltd. has raised production to 1.8 million barrels per day (bpd) and is working towards a target of 2 million bpd. The PMCC is essential to reaching this goal by driving efficiency and boosting production capabilities,” Soneye added.

The PMCC operates 24/7, staffed by trained professionals, and leverages cloud-based solutions for seamless data exchange with internal and external stakeholders. The centre is also linked to the Industry-Wide Security Command and Control Centre, enhancing the security of production operations.

As NNPC Ltd. continues to modernize, the PMCC reflects its commitment to innovation and excellence within Nigeria’s oil and gas sector. This initiative not only supports national goals but also strengthens Nigeria’s position in the global energy market, ensuring sustainable growth and profitability for all stakeholders.
