Ademola Adeyemi-Bero has been appointed as Nigeria’s Governor for the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and Chairman of the OPEC Board of Governors for 2025.
The appointment was confirmed at the 189th OPEC Conference meeting, according to Nigeria’s Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Heineken Lokpobiri.
In a statement issued by his media aide, Nneamaka Okafor, Minister Lokpobiri praised Adeyemi-Bero’s elevation, describing it as a reflection of Nigeria’s significant contributions to the global oil industry. He emphasized that the appointment provides Nigeria with a crucial platform to advocate for balanced energy policies that benefit oil producers, consumers, and the global economy.
Before being named Chairman of the OPEC Board of Governors for 2025, Adeyemi-Bero was confirmed as Nigeria’s OPEC Governor for the same year.
The Minister also expressed gratitude to Ambassador Gabriel Aduda, the outgoing Nigerian OPEC Governor, for his outstanding service. Lokpobiri commended Ambassador Aduda for his key role in promoting Nigeria’s interests within OPEC and enhancing the country’s influence in global energy discussions.
Additionally, OPEC appointed Adeeb Al-Aama as Saudi Arabia’s OPEC Governor and the Alternate Chairman of the OPEC Board of Governors for 2025.
The OPEC Conference, which gathered representatives from member countries, addressed significant issues, including reports from the Secretary-General and the Economic Commission Board (ECB), while also discussing critical internal matters.
The Conference also extended the tenure of His Excellency Haitham Al Ghais as OPEC Secretary General for another three years, starting August 1, 2025. Member countries commended Al Ghais for his exceptional leadership and the Secretariat’s steadfast commitment to OPEC’s objectives.
