PSC deploys new commissioners of police to Enugu, three others

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has appointed Commissioner of Police Fidelis Ogarabe as the new Commissioner of Police for Enugu State, alongside three other senior officers deployed to Plateau, Nasarawa and Ondo states.

Ogarabe, who previously served as Commissioner of Police in charge of the INTERPOL Annex in Lagos, emerged following interviews conducted by the commission to assess the officers’ competence, fitness and suitability for their new assignments.

The other officers appointed are CP Sunday J. A. Okoebor, formerly Commissioner of Police in charge of Police Accounts and Budget at the Force Headquarters, who has been deployed to Plateau State.

CP Sheikh Mohammed Danko, who previously headed the Force Intelligence Annex in Lagos, has been posted to Nasarawa State, while CP Johnson Ayodeji Babalola, formerly of the Special Inquiry Unit at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, has been deployed to Ondo State.

The deployments were approved on Thursday at the Solomon Arase Conference Hall, Police Service Commission Headquarters, Abuja.

In a statement issued on Thursday and signed by the commission’s Head of Protocol and Public Relations, Torty Kalu, the PSC said the appointments were made in accordance with its constitutional mandate.

The commission’s Chairman, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu, said the deployments were in line with Section 215(1)(b) of the 1999 Constitution, which empowers the commission to appoint Commissioners of Police for each state of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory.

Argungu, who was represented at the event by a board member, Justice Paul Adamu Galumje (JSC, rtd.), said the officers had been found worthy in learning and character.

He charged the newly appointed commissioners to discharge their duties with impartiality, professionalism and a strong sense of responsibility, while upholding the standards and expectations of their respective offices.
