A paediatrician in eastern Germany went on trial on Monday over allegations that he sexually abused more than 70 children over a period spanning more than a decade.
The 46-year-old doctor faces more than 130 criminal charges relating to the alleged abuse of children while working at medical clinics in the eastern German towns of Nauen and Rathenow between 2013 and 2025.
He was arrested about a year ago after the mother of a child reported suspected abuse to the authorities, prompting an investigation.
According to prosecutors, searches of the doctor’s electronic devices uncovered visual evidence of additional alleged offences.
The defendant has remained in pretrial detention since his arrest.
The trial is taking place in Potsdam, a city on the outskirts of Berlin, and is expected to continue until December.
