NCAA sanctions RwandAir ₦15m over baggage complaint

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has fined RwandAir ₦15 million for violating consumer protection regulations in a case involving a passenger’s damaged baggage.

NCAA spokesperson Michael Achimugu disclosed the sanction in a post on his personal X account on Friday.

According to Achimugu, the airline was fined for failing to resolve the passenger’s baggage complaint within the stipulated timeframe.

The sanction is in line with Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023, which provides for consumer protection in air travel, including compensation and other remedies for passengers affected by baggage-related issues.

In addition to the fine, the NCAA ordered RwandAir to replace the passenger’s damaged bag and pay $170 in first-need compensation.

The authority said the sanction underscores the need for airlines to address passenger complaints promptly and comply fully with consumer protection regulations.
