Barcelona have signed Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal on a contract running until 2029, the Spanish champions announced on Tuesday, after failing to lure Julian Alvarez away from Atletico Madrid.

“Barcelona and Arsenal have reached an agreement for the transfer of Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus,” the Catalan club said in a statement.

Spanish media reported that Barcelona paid Arsenal around €10 million ($11.5 million) for the 29-year-old forward.

Jesus arrives at Camp Nou to strengthen an attack weakened by the departures of Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres earlier this summer.

Barcelona had spent much of the transfer window pursuing Alvarez, but Atletico Madrid refused to negotiate with the Catalan club over the Argentina international.
