The UK Government has announced the appointment of Vicky Seymour as the new Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria.
Seymour succeeds Gill Lever OBE, who concluded her posting in June 2026.
According to a statement issued by the UK Government on Thursday, Seymour has taken up her role in Abuja, where she will work to deepen and strengthen the UK’s partnership with Nigeria across key areas including economic growth, security, migration, development, international cooperation and people-to-people links.
Seymour brings more than 20 years of experience in diplomacy, international development and government service.
She most recently served as Head of the East Africa Department at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), a role she held from 2023. Prior to that, she led the FCDO’s Trade Diplomacy Department and served as Development Director in Mozambique.
Her extensive career has included senior leadership positions across Africa, including Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, as well as assignments in Afghanistan. She has also held roles focused on climate change, security and economic development.
Before joining the civil service, Seymour worked in the not-for-profit sector, specialising in migration issues.
