Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has nominated the Executive Chairman of the Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS), Jerry Adams, as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election.
Announcing the decision on his X account on Tuesday, the governor said the nomination followed extensive consultations, careful reflection and prayers.
“After wide consultations, deep reflection and earnest prayers, I am delighted to announce the nomination of Mr. Jerry Adams, FCTI, FNIM, CNA, as my running mate in the 2027 Governorship Election,” Sani wrote.
The nomination marks a significant shift in Kaduna politics, with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) fielding a Christian deputy governorship candidate for the first time since 2019, following its Muslim-Muslim tickets in the 2019 and 2023 elections.
Governor Sani said the decision reflects his administration’s commitment to inclusion, justice, fairness and equitable representation.
“This decision is far greater than the selection of a deputy governorship candidate. It is a reaffirmation of the values that have guided our administration since I took the oath of office on May 29, 2023—the values of inclusion, justice, fairness, equity and the unwavering conviction that every citizen of Kaduna State deserves a genuine sense of belonging,” he said.
The governor added that the nomination underscores his belief in rewarding competence, integrity and dedicated public service.
Sani described Adams as an accomplished public servant, institution builder and respected tax administrator whose leadership at KADIRS has strengthened the state’s fiscal position through reforms that boosted internally generated revenue and improved public financial management.
“Through innovation, transparency and professionalism, he has helped strengthen our fiscal capacity, enabling government to invest even more in education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture and other critical sectors that improve the lives of our people,” the governor said.
According to Sani, Adams’ emergence as his running mate aligns with his vision of building a united, peaceful and prosperous Kaduna State where merit, competence and character remain the foundation of leadership.
Adams is widely regarded for his contributions to tax administration and institutional reform. His nomination is expected to shape political discussions in Kaduna as parties begin positioning ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
