Makinde reshuffles cabinet, sacks commissioner

Seyi Makinde, Oyo State Governor
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle, which led to the immediate dismissal of the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Toyin Balogun, and the appointment of Faosat Sanni as her replacement.

The development was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday in Ibadan by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Sulaimon Olanrewaju.

According to the statement, Sanni has been redeployed to the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, where she will take over from Balogun, who has been relieved of her appointment with immediate effect.

“The governor has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle, which saw the redeployment of Faosat Sanni to the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Inclusion. Sanni takes over from Toyin Balogun, who has been relieved of her appointment,” the statement read in part. “The new redeployment takes immediate effect.”

Governor Makinde thanked Balogun for her contributions to the development of the state and wished her success in her future endeavours.

Sanni previously served as Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion between 2019 and 2023 before her redeployment to the Ministry of Special Duties in 2023 and later to the Ministry of Trade, Industry, Investment and Cooperative.

The latest development comes a day after the governor forwarded the name of the Permanent Secretary, General Administration, Olabode Ladipo, to the Oyo State House of Assembly as a commissioner-nominee.

Makinde also recently approved several other appointments, including the Chairman of the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport Upgrade Committee, Ifeoluwa Akande; Executive Adviser on Intra-Party Affairs, Isola Adekunle; and a part-time member of the Local Government Service Commission, Oladejo Oladokun.

According to a letter signed by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Segun Ogunwuyi, the appointments take effect from July 1, 2026. The governor congratulated the appointees and urged them to demonstrate dedication, loyalty, and commitment in the discharge of their duties.

In a separate earlier cabinet shake-up announced in January 2026, Makinde relieved the Secretary to the State Government, Olanike Adeyemo, of her appointment and replaced her with Musibau Babatunde.

He also redeployed Barrister Temilolu Ashamu from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources to the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, while appointing Ademola Aderinto as commissioner-designate.

Other appointments announced at the time included Abiodun Adedoja as Special Adviser on Energy Security and Kolawole Elijah Akanmu as Senior Special Assistant on Budget and Economic Planning.
